The Amazon Jungle spreads from northwestern Brazil to Colombia. It’s the world's largest tropical rainforest. It goes into nine nation's territories.
The Amazon rainforest has a variety of interesting and weird plants. There is a Lobster Claw plant, which is a plant with a long line of leaves that are colored red. Then there is the passion flower. It is a white flower with blue and more white on the inside. It also has a yellowish mini flower on the inside.
The Amazon Rainforest also has a fuzzy looking plant growing in it. The plant is called a Combretum Rotundifolium. It is red, orange and yellow. It looks like an over ripe mango from far away.
A Cobra Lily is a plant with “Windows” in the leaves that most bugs, like flies, think they are flying out, when really they are flying deeper inside. An Orchid Mantis looks like a flower, but it's actually a big bug attracting other pollinators.
Most experts agree that about 80,000 acres disappear every day when trees are cut down for lumber and cleared for farms. Trees have an important role in absorbing carbon dioxide. Poor animals are losing their homes and food, if people don’t stop destroying habitats, all animals, humans too, are endangered.
Some scientists believe that if we put aside half of the Earth's land and water for nature, we could save up to 90% of each species of animals and plants.
The Amazon Rainforest is a beautiful place and we need to save it from destruction.
